ART ELEMENTS BLOG HOP SEPTEMBER THEME: FOLIAGE

This is my initial time taking part in an Artwork Things Weblog Hop.  I was intrigued by the theme of foliage considering that that has been my topic for most of the years I have been producing ceramic beads.  I usually make a mould from plants and use it as the foundation for pendants, toggle clasps and cabochons.  I always hand paint on the coloured glazes and nearly by no means use underglazes. The picture earlier mentioned is a sample of pendants in my standard way of building.

For some time I have been considering about other approaches of making leaves and bouquets.  I have a selection of dried leaves that have fallen off a rubber plant I have in the dwelling. I adore their sleek circulation and lyrical traces and kind.

 I decided I desired to hand build my leaves and flowers. These leaves (pictured above) and some Victorian botanical drawings were my inspiration.  I restricted my tools to working with an orange wood cuticle stick for makings the markings  on the leaves. My clay system was a white stoneware clay which I fireplace to cone 5 (a little bit over 2100 levels F.)  I commenced compact but as time went on my leaves bought greater and even larger.

When it arrived to glazing what I created I was a little bit stymied at first.  I decided to test some underglazes which I will not usually like since they are so rigid.  But I needed all those people markings to clearly show up by way of the other glazes I utilised.  So I experimented with out a black and a blue.  I was not unsatisfied with the consequence.
